Published by Ares under Ares FAQ's

domnik asked:

When you download Ares, you get it all! You’ll find music, video games, and movies of all genres literally at your fingertips. You’re going to feel great when you download Ares because it’s a complete music download site with over a 100 million titles to choose from, and you’ll be among 30 million users who find exactly what they are looking for. One of the best features is it’s free. Yup, no cost, no coin, no change, and no dinero–it’s free!

This open source peer-to-peer network offers easy installation with connectivity that stays connected. What a concept! You install it, and it stays put with no drops. The brains behind Ares include chat rooms and instant messaging. Once you install it, you can be talking with someone who shares your taste in music, share files, and make new discoveries together.

Want to know what a plectrum is? Step in and ask another music lover (by the way, a plectrum is a small piece of metal, plastic, or ivory used to pluck the strings of a guitar, lyre, or mandolin–I found this out in a chat room on Ares).

When you download Ares, it takes a matter of minutes, and the site is simple and has straightforward intuitive navigation. This is huge, nothing worse than a site that leads you hither and yon with a lot of unnecessary steps to get what you want. A few simple steps and you’re in!

Looking for that off the charts indie band whose bass guitarist makes your heart thump louder? Need only one more track to complete your collection of female songwriters from the 60s? No problem, just download Ares.

Why is the Ares Free Download Network Better than Other P2P Networks?

Published by Ares under Ares FAQ's

Samuel V. Hales asked:

The Ares free download software is making a lot of headway lately. What is all the buzz about? What makes this software better than, say, Morpheus or Kazaa? Here are 3 of the points that most Ares free download users say are most important to them.

1. No spyware. Unlike many other bit torrent and peer-to-peer sites that are supposedly free, the Ares free download system does not deliver malicious software to your computer.

“Free” programs ranging from file systems to screen savers will often include adware as part of their package. These will show you ads via pop-up or within the software itself.

Some people don’t mind if the ads are shown in the P2P interface itself. But what many people don’t know is that even if the ads aren’t annoying pop-ups, they are likely connected to spyware that monitors your activity.

This is supposedly to enhance your user experience, by delivering “appropriate advertising”. What it amounts to in reality, however, is simply a violation of your privacy.

2. Huge user base. Ares has over 30 million users worldwide. There is bound to be somebody who likes the same things as you do, and has the audio, video, or other files that you’re looking for.

Even if you do a search and don’t find what you want, there is still a pretty good chance that you can get it on this P2P network. Why? Because of the next point:

3. Community. The Ares software provides chat rooms as well as an instant messenger so that you can connect with other music, movie, and software aficionados.

Can’t find what you want with an initial search? No problem–just get in one of the chat rooms and see if you can find anybody who can seed the file for you. Community is just one of many reasons that the Ares free download software may be the only P2P file sharing system you ever need.

Ares Download – Ares Free Downloads

Published by Ares under Ares FAQ's

Jamar Hardin asked:

File sharing happens when people who are connected to the web use file-sharing programs to replicate files between each other. The moral issues come often from the concern that disciples of file sharing may infringe copyright laws. This can happen if the content of a file being shared is covered by such laws.

File sharing isn’t always illegal, whether or not the works being shared are covered by copyright. As an instance, some artists may choose to support freeware, shareware, open-source, or anti-copyright, and disciple the use of file sharing as a free promotional tool. Just about all shareware, freeware, and open source software might be shared as much as the end user wishes, depending on the End User Disclaimer for that precise program. Other non-software related intellectual property may be shared legally in any way the end user wants. Content in the public domain can also openly be shared.

The entire thing has been something of a main event that long ago turned into a circus, but the involvement of groups like the FSF shows how much attention the case is getting. With Professor Nesson set to argue in court that file-sharing is only fair use, the case has believed a significance way beyond that of most such legal actions, and everybody wants a chance to be heard.

Nesson is cooking up a terribly engaging defense in a peer-to-peer piracy case. Instead of disagreeing that accused file-swapper Joel Tenenbaum did not do it, Nesson is contending that Nesson did not do anything inaccurate because sharing files with your “friends” over the web isn’t really a crime, and is covered under well-established Fair Use laws. Similarly , according to Nesson, the aggrieved party in a file-copying case isn’t entitled to any damages anyway.

Nesson’s strategy is incredibly bold — should he succeed in this novel defense, it will, basically, de-criminalize peer-to-peer file-sharing forever.

Top 5 Most Painful Places To Get A Tattoo

Published by Ares under Ares

Sarah Rowe asked:

You may know, or not know, that a tattoo can be extremely painful. The level of pain a person will feel differs from person to person and depending on the place of the tattoo. If you easily feel pain or the thought of pain makes you weak in the knees, then you may want to stay away from these five areas.

* The top part of the ankle or foot – Cute but very painful

* Above the rib cage on the chest – Thin skin so watch out for this area

* Behind The Ear – Tons of sensitive nerves and little skin

* The eye brows and Lips – Yes people do get tattoos there

* Pubic Area – Extremely sensitive area

When you are considering your tattoo and where you want to place it on your body these are some of the most painful places. Other places can be painful as well. There are certain other sensitive areas that I’m sure you can think of.

The design can affect the pain level also. If the tattoo is not filled in, or if it has a lot of open space with thin lines, then you will find it less painful than a tattoo that is filled in completely with thicker lines.

Having a great design you can be proud of and putting it in the right place for you can mean that you may have to venture into one of these areas of pain. If this is the case then just remember that once the tattoo is finished, you will have a personal piece of art that you can always enjoy for the rest of your life.

How to Avoid Getting a Virus on Your Computer

Published by Ares under Ares

Hector Mota asked:

Since most of us spend quite a lot of time online these days it is very hard to avoid getting a computer virus. The reason for this is because while most of us use the Internet as way to shop, browse, email and work each day, there are many out there who spend all day looking for any chance to get into your system. The rewards for these people are many as they can come away with all your personal credit card and banking information as well a chance to infiltrate, infect and steal your computer from a remote location.

Each time you get online there are hackers, spammers and identity theft thieves who are constantly sending out ‘pings’ to computers in order to see if you have firewall protection. Once they detect that you do not they will hone in on you and move in for the kill. This amounts to the same way a burglar will ring your doorbell to see if you are home or not.

One of the many ways hackers and identity thieves’ work is by offering files and programs for you to download. If you use P2P file sharing programs such as Limewire or Ares, BitTorrent and so on, chances are that you have already downloaded and installed a virus laden program on your computer via a Trojan horse virus. These viruses are placed inside the program itself to avoid being detected. The only way to avoid this is by making sure you check all files you download first and by downloading files only from trustworthy sites.

Another way to open up and let a virus into your computer is by way of an email attachment. Many of us receive emails daily from friends with offers, pictures, and videos and so on. Never open and unzip any email or file unless you are sure who it is that is coming from. It is a good idea to look at the sender’s address to see if it is coming from someone you know.

There are many legitimate looking sites out there who offer you free tours if you sign up as well as files and other stuff. But you must be careful since there are a lot of sites which contain spy-ware. Spyware is what is used by many to record and track all of the pages you visit. Some sites will even go a step further and key-log every word you type as way to steal your personal credit card information and passwords. There are some very good Internet security programs that contain “Spy Site Blocking” and will not let your computer or laptop enter the site and will re-direct you somewhere else.

If you are browsing cyberspace without a good firewall or an Internet security program you can be sure that you already have a virus and/or spy-ware on your computer. There are some sites that offer you free scan as a way to help you detect them. However, I do not recommend you running them unless you have an anti-virus program already installed first. The reason for this is that many hackers, thieves and spammers constantly create sites such as these looking and finding unwitting victims.

There are programs that offer you firewall protection as well IM security, identity, email and spy-site blocking protection. In addition they will also check and scan your computer to see if you are infected, pinpoint the file or program and quarantine or delete it for you. If you are browsing the Internet without a good anti-virus program on your computer you may as well walk around with all your personal information on a big billboard and advertise it.

While this may sound ridiculously absurd, that is exactly what you are doing when you surf, shop and work online without one. Your computer is your personal wallet and vault. It holds countless bits of important, irreplaceable information. Protect yourself and your identity as well as your personal data by getting an Internet security program today. This way you can easily do all your online activities without any fear knowing your vault of information is very well protected.

Free Models From the Web – Spacecraft Paper Modeling

Published by Ares under Ares

Wade Watson asked:

In a previous article, I discussed how I discovered the wonderful world of paper (or card) models available for download. You simply download a graphic file, print it on your inkjet printer and assemble with glue. While this medium will never replace plastic models, there is a lot to say for a model format that offers you unlimited replacement parts, scale adjustability, and usually is, well, free.

If you love space ships, as I do, there is a great variety of space models free for download. Whether you want a model based on a move, TV show or reality, you can probably find it. Currell Graphics features models of the (pre-spaceage) V-2 rocket from WWII and the SpaceShipOne. The Lower Hudson Valley Paper Model features some great models of NASA craft in their “Real Space” section, including several versions of the Space Shuttle, the upcoming Ares moon craft and even a 4 foot tall Saturn V Apollo rocket.

You’ll find many card model available based on spaceships of movies and TV. An easy starter would be Erwin de Jong’s saucer from “The Day the Earth Stood Still” at Cut & Paste Sci-Fi. A fairly new model on the web is a very detailed version of the Discovery from 2001: A Space Odyssey that is several feet long when finished. Battlestar Gallactia (both versions) are well covered, as are several other popular and less well-known shows. My last count was at least 40 downloadable models available depicting “Star Wars” craft, from a small and simple Tie Fighter to a very detailed At-At walker. The “Star Trek” franchise takes the ribbon for the most free model downloads on the web. I’ve documented about 100 and I’m sure there are many more around.

Constructing space models in paper is basically the same as building other card models. The trickiest part tends to be in matching the joints of cylindrical hull sections. I like to complete each section, dry it and fit the next section to the previous one. And while many card model files include bases, I almost always prefer to suspend them by nylon thread from the ceiling. You can poke holes along the hull during assembly and embed buttons inside with the thread tied to it. Doing this in 2 places along the length allows 2 contact points for the string for easy leveling. An easier method is to simply locate the center of gravity of the finished model and tie the thread around that section of the fuselage. Transparent thread will be basically invisible.

A couple of good places to start looking for free space-oriented card models are Free Paper Toys and The Lower Hudson Valley Paper Model Giftshop.

Free Ares Download Support: How To Find Lost Files

Published by Ares under Ares FAQ's

Cara Conde asked:

If you’re suddenly unable to find the files from your free Ares download, there are a couple of things which could have happened. Don’t worry! Your files aren’t really lost. Here’s how to find them:

Determine Where Your Free Ares Download Stores Files

By default, if you’re running Windows98-ME, your free Ares download should store files in: “C:\Program Files\Ares\My Shared Folder.” On Windows XP-Vista, the default location is: “C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Local Settings\Application Data\Ares\My Shared Folder.”

You can see where Ares is storing your files by opening the program and going to the “Control Panel.”  Depending on which version of Ares you are using, the filepath either will be listed on that screen or will be available for viewing in the “Download Folder.”

I Still Can’t Find My Free Ares Download Files?!

If you weren’t able to locate your files by discovering where Ares has stored them, do a search on your computer. Go to Start Menu>Search. Type in either “Ares,” “Ares Shared Folder,” or the name of a song or artist you remember downloading. You computer will pop up a list of results which will tell you where to find your files.

O.K. Phew I Found My Free Ares Download Files. Now How Do I Keep From Losing Them Again?

If you’re having trouble remembering where your Ares files are being stored, simply change the file path in the Ares control panel to something you will remember. (See above for how to get there.)

Important: If you change your file path to a different download location, Ares will NOT automatically transfer the files you have already downloaded to the new location. You’ll have to do this manually by opening both folders and dragging them over to the new location.

Also, keep in mind when adding new folders to your Ares library that you may have to tell the program to do another “autoscan” to find the new files you wish to share. In the Control Panel section, select “autoscan” and then apply to add new files to your Ares library.

If you’re still having trouble managing your free Ares download files, try visiting the Ares chat room which is integrated with the newest versions of the program. With a network of over 30 million users, odds are good that you’ll find someone hanging out online that can help.
