New Book Contains 34 Letters of College Students Who Wrote to Pope Benedict

Rochester, MI (PRWEB) February 23, 2012

A book of 34 letters from college students edited by Dr. John Kinkel of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan calls on the Vatican to listen to the concerns of youth.

The book, “Letters to Pope Benedict: College Students Speak Out,” features letters collected from students over the past four years. It was written by Dr. R. John Kinkel with the hope that sharing students’ opinions about the state of the Catholic Church would encourage the pope to bring about change.

“The Catholic Church is really at a critical point in its history,” said Kinkel. “Young people are growing increasingly disillusioned with its practices and policies, which are outdated and do not reflect the needs of modern families. If it doesn’t act now, the church could lose an entire generation of believers.”

While the opinions expressed in the book vary from person to person, the overall theme is that the Vatican needs reform. Many students feel that women should be ordained to the priesthood and that the church should adapt some of its more antiquated teachings that are not based on the principles of early Christianity.

According to Kinkel, taking seriously the opinions of these students—and of all young believers—is vital to the future of the church. His goal is to bring the ideals and viewpoints of these individuals to the forefront of church discussion, since these are the ones most upset with current Vatican policy. Feeling that church officials had largely ignored critics in Europe and the U.S., he decided to turn to the voices of youth.

Recently, Kinkel sent a letter and a copy of the book to Pope Benedict and received a reply from Msgr. Peter Wells, thanking him for the book and assuring him of the pope’s prayers and blessings. In addition a priest friend told him that the opinions in the book are what he had been telling his bishops for years, and that he hoped that the Pope and his supporters would reflect on the letters.

“When I received the letter from the Vatican, I told my students, ‘The eagle has landed. Your letters are there,’” Kinkel said. “The opinions expressed in this book reflect the diverse background and various religious beliefs that make up the church’s college-educated constituency. Their frustrations really get to the heart of the problems the Vatican is having connecting with this generation.”

New Book Challenges Negative Views of Christianity

New Book Challenges Negative Views of Christianity

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) September 13, 2011

Often a writer is inspired to write a book because of something they read that cannot possibly be true. Wanda Treadway’s inspiration for In Defense of Lifting Up Jesus: Will You Stand in the Gap With Me? (published by Trafford Publishing) was a book she read criticizing the veracity of the Christ story.

“Pastor Rob Bell’s book Love Wins compares the Jesus story, an essential truth of the Christian faith, as being ‘misguided and toxic,’ claiming the truth surrounding the birth and life of Jesus is a myth,” Treadway says. “Those words compelled me to write my own book.”

One serious problem, Treadway contends, is that much of modern society has become accustomed to using Jesus as a crutch of sorts, rather than a savior. She believes many people are twisting the idea of Jesus into one of the false prophets he warned of, and that we need to remember that the things Jesus stood for 2,000 years ago are still applicable.

“Some leaders in the church have strayed from the straight path and are leading their flock down the narrow path,” Treadway says. “Because they have chosen to lean to their own understanding, and not heed the precepts of the Word of God.”

Readers will take comfort in the quiet assurance of Treadway’s faith as she examines many of the issues that may be confusing them. With so many seemingly-opposed examples of Christianity to choose from, readers should be able to make their own decisions about what the right and wrong interpretations of the Bible are.

About the Author

Wanda Treadway holds a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Madonna University (2000), where she graduated with high honors. She is also a member of the National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society (Kamma Gamma Pi). Treadway is working to get her pastor’s license.

Trafford Publishing, an Author Solutions, Inc. author services imprint, was the first publisher in the world to offer an “on-demand publishing service,” and has led the independent publishing revolution since its establishment in 1995. Trafford was also one of the earliest publishers to utilize the Internet for selling books. 4 Baby Stepping Skills That Teach People How to Master Their Food Choices and Take Control of Their Eating Habits. Registered Nurse Pens Reader Friendly Informative Book.

(PRWEB) June 04, 2011

New book offers different ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle by teaching people how to master their food choices. It also teaches grocery shopping skills, baby stepping skills, and tips on preparing healthy foods.

The reader may also find answers to questions they probably had never thought about.

Many prepared foods and fast foods are frequently loaded with saturated fat, sugar and salt, that are all very destructive to our bodies. In her new book, “Sensible Eating: Why You Need to Master Your Food Choices and Take Control”, C. Patricia Leacock-Ballish, RN, not only offers strong medical motivation on how to avoid unhealthy foods, but she also suggests simple ways to make positive diet changes.

With this reader friendly book of 108 pages, “Sensible Eating” addresses food choices psychologically and practically, and then discusses the many dangers of conditions such as obesity and diabetes, and how these two conditions, which are often caused and or worsened by poor food choices, could seriously impact a person’s life and that of their family. This book also discusses types of vitamins and minerals and why it is important to include them in our daily diet.

Leacock-Ballish stresses the importance of not looking for a quick fix, but learning how to make a personal commitment in order to make the change, and by taking baby steps through the process rather than making drastic changes and failing at another diet. She believes that once a person becomes accustomed to these healthy habits, their bodies and minds will then bond together.

It is true that every day people are confronted with many food choices and temptations in different circumstances within their lives, but what “Sensible Eating” does, is that it offers tips and it motivates people to make smart decisions no matter where they are, or no matter the circumstances.

Leacock-Ballish also gives us ten examples of tasty, low fat, low sodium, low calorie recipes that can easily be prepared at home. These recipes also give the reader ideas on how to make their own favorite recipes that will be healthier, yet still delicious.

“Sensible Eating” is a unique book that motivates the reader, it is easy to read, yet loaded with valuable information that can be used as a great resource for many people who are looking for different ways to lose weight and keep it off. New Book Presents Realistic Approach to Recognizing Children’s Gifts

New Book Presents Realistic Approach to Recognizing Children’s Gifts

Wellington, FL (PRWEB) May 8, 2008

Do You Know Who Your Children Are? by artist and humanitarian Michelle Starkey is a timely inspection of the problems parents are facing today with their children’s behavior and the tips for resolving the issues, including parents working on their own behavior.

Starkey’s book explores the gifts that children can bring into a parent’s life by examining the seven roles of messenger, sage, teacher, guide, spiritual companion, healer and friend. Starkey gives readers an “approach to working with children [which] will benefit everyone involved with children as well as the children themselves, and ensures that the consciousness of future generations will be raised.”

After observing her own and other parents’ frustration with their children’s behavior, Starkey found that the best remedy for children’s troubles was having parents examine themselves and finding new ways to view challenges and grow together with their child. Starkey also indulges readers in her message of self-discovering the greatest potential in human development.

A fresh approach to tackling the challenges of raising children, Do You Know Who Your Children Are? is as moving as it is constructive. For readers who dare to examine their inner selves, Starkey’s Do You Know Who Your Children Are? should be required reading for anyone who wishes to see the gifts that children bring to the world.

Zondervan Publishing Acquires David Brody’s First Book ‘The Teavangelicals: The Inside Story of How Evangelicals, the Tea Party, and Presidential Contenders are Trying to Take Back America’

Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) August 09, 2011

With the legendary Iowa Straw Poll taking place later this month (August 13), Zondervan is proud to announce it has acquired CBN News Chief Political Correspondent David Brody’s new book, “The Teavangelicals: The Inside Story of How Evangelicals, the Tea Party, and Presidential Contenders are Trying to Take Back America.”

Brody, a respected journalist with a twenty-five year, Emmy-winning career in television, takes the reader behind the scenes in Washington and throughout the country where he discovers:

Teavangelicals: A new, emerging political force that is plotting strategy at this very moment to reclaim America
The Tea Party-Evangelical Christian relationship: Why the mainstream media continues to portray Evangelicals as a threat to the Tea Party Movement, and why the mainstream media continues to get it wrong.
More than half of Americans who identify themselves as part of the Tea Party identify themselves as born-again Christians
The “nerve center” of this powerful new movement is far, far away from Washington, DC in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, GA. Brody gets inside and reveals all.
Why Evangelicals ARE critical to the success of the Tea Party.

“If you remove fiscally conservative evangelical Christians from the Tea Party movement, you’re left with half a loaf. This book takes the reader on a behind the scenes adventure guaranteed to explore and reveal the evangelical tentacles that permeate the movement,” Brody says.

David Brody appears on Christian Broadcasting Network’s The 700 Club as the Chief Political Correspondent. He also regularly appears on Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, C-SPAN and NPR. The New York Times declares, “Mr. Brody occupies a position of influence,” and his analysis has, “become required reading for political insiders.”

New Book by Author Rick Cook Highlights Exciting New Opportunities for Authors, Readers

New Book by Author Rick Cook Highlights Exciting New Opportunities for Authors, Readers

(PRWEB) July 19, 2011

“Shift Happens: The New E-Publishing Paradigm And What It Means For Writers,” by Rick Cook, is about the exciting changes in the publishing industry and the opportunities it offers to authors and readers. It is currently available on Amazon Kindle for $ 2.99.

“Ebooks enormously increase choices for readers and put authors instead of publishers in the driver’s seat,” says Rick Cook, noted science fiction author who wrote the book based on his experiences with conventional and e-publishing.

Cook says the book’s price of $ 2.99 reflects the changes. “The fact is that ebooks are so cheap to publish that authors can cut their prices substantially and still make money. If “Shift Happens” were published in the regular manner it would be a $ 15 or $ 20 book.”

“The choice also becomes much greater with ebooks,” Cook says. “With no publisher to act as gatekeeper a lot more books will be available.” Cook notes that not all ebooks are of high quality, but many of them are.

The ebook model also offers major advantages for authors as well. “With ebooks authors don’t have to mess with the dysfunctional and increasingly closed system of conventional publishing,” says Cook, who has 6 science fiction and fantasy novels in print. “If the book satisfies the author, that’s all it takes.”

This is in sharp contrast to conventional publishing where the opportunities for authors, especially new ones, have been shrinking as publishers’ outmoded business model produces more economic stress.

“John Grisham’s first book was rejected by 28 publishers,” Cook points out. “Louis L’Amour collected 350 rejections. What would have happened if Grisham had stopped after the 27th rejection? Or L’Amour after 200 or so? How many wonderful books are sitting in desk drawers because the authors folded under the avalanche of rejection?”

“The amazing thing is how quickly this has happened,” Cook says. “The first big uptick in ebook sales came in November and December of 2010 and Amazon’s announcement of a 70 percent royalty rate in January 2011 sealed the deal.”

Cook noted that several ebook millionaires went from selling only a few copies of their ebooks in 2010 to selling hundreds of thousands of copies a month in 2011.

Cook cautions that ebooks are not a get-rich-quick scheme. “The fact is that you have to work hard,” he said. “First you need a good book and then you have to promote it heavily to get noticed and drive sales. It’s not difficult, but it is work, work that has to continue as long as you want the book to keep selling.”

Cook also points out that most of the major outlets have no upfront costs to the author. “It’s essentially free to publish your book,” Cook says. “The publisher makes money off the sales of the book, not the author.”

The name of the book “Shift Happens” came from Cook’s friend and fellow author, the late G. Harry Stine.

“Harry used to say that the thing about paradigms is that shift happens,” Cook recalls. “He was sure right about ebooks.”

“Shift Happens: The New E-Publishing Paradigm” is available for $ 2.99 from Amazon Books Kindle Store.

Why do Less than Half of Women Get The Man They Want? Popular, Controversial Book Blames Sex

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) February 14, 2011

More than half of all American women looking for commitment from their guy will fail. According to a controversial new book, “ALPHA MALE: Who They Are, How They Think, What They Want; How to Attract, Meet, Marry & Train One,” women are doing what they strongly believe is right, but it is the exact opposite of what they need to do to make a man fall in love and commit.

What they are doing is what our society has told them to do… and it doesn’t work. They’ve been taught in today’s world to regard men as simply a male version of themselves. Women make assumptions based on how females think and feel and not how males think and feel. They don’t know what to do when men behave in ways that seem incomprehensible to them. How can women turn this situation around and get real, lasting commitment from their guys?

Available on http://www.Amazon.com, (search for “Alpha Male XX XY”), “ALPHA MALE: Who They Are, How They Think, What They Want; How to Attract, Meet, Marry & Train One” details:

How and where to meet and identify a true Alpha Male — and how to identify imposters.
How to make someone you’re interested in notice you and contact you.
Striking similarities between canine and human Alpha Males.
How to use an Alpha Male’s natural instincts to make him commit to and propose to you.
The single most important thing to remember about your wedding to an Alpha Male.
And, most important, how to make him happy he committed to you, every single day.
